The '80s playlist — 40 years of fitness
We celebrate Holmes Place 40th anniversary with the best from the '80s: a glamourous and experimental decade that had a lot of unforgettable music.
Decade nostalgia is a normal behaviour in our society. There is a time in everyone's life where we feel this — the wish to live in a different decade, the identification with pop references from that specific decade. The '80s nostalgia was something that we all experienced recently. The generation born in that decade started embracing it once again; the subsequent one started idolizing it. MTV was born, the Berlin wall fell, and the Cold war ended. Boom boxes were around and hip-hop was becoming mainstream. We got to admit: the music was pretty dope.
This time-travelling we're making with music to celebrate Holmes Place 40th anniversary has brought us to the '80s: a glamourous and experimental decade that saw names like Madonna rise to icon status. We start with one of the most successful bands of all time, Fleetwood Mac and one of their hits this decade; the queen of pop, Madonna, right at the beginning of her fantastic career. Then there are classic songs by Kim Wilde, Roxy Music or The Who (yes, they were still rocking it in the '80s). We finish this trip with some of the most sophisticated pop music of the period, with songs from The Blue Nile, Talk Talk or Talking Heads.
